During the month of October, Backbeat students can exchange their hard-earned practice minutes for sweet prizes like gigantic bags of Doritos, gift cards to Cineplex Odeon or the sweet bliss of a Hi-Chew.
And that's not all: the student who practices the most in October will win $100 of cold, hard cash. And, in case you're wondering, the winning $100 bill will in fact be frozen in a block of solid ice.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Because it's fun! And we know the value of having a good practice routine.
The Practice Challenge has been designed to help supercharge your practice routine and give you some extra fun motivation when it comes to establishing awesome practice habits.
WHEN DOES IT START AND HOW LONG DOES IT RUN FOR?
The Practice Challenge starts on your first lesson in October and runs for four weeks from then. This means that for some students, their four week Practice Challenge will run into early November.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any current Backbeat student who are registered in private lesssons, an Intro Series class, Jr. Rock Band or Rock Band.
Little Beats and Bigger Beats students are unable to participate in The Practice Challenge because their programs do not require them to practice at home.
HOW DO I START?
Starting on your first lesson in October, simply download and print your copy of the Practice Log and start tracking your practice minutes! You can also pick up a copy of your Practice Log at your first October lesson.
Once you have logged at least 15 minutes of practice time, you can bring your initialled Practice Log to your lesson in exchange for some sweet prizes! No additional registration is required.

WHAT IF I PRACTICE MORE THAN 7 HOURS A WEEK?
You're a machine! If seven hours a week just isn't enough, then simply continue to log your minutes using the following week.
If you fill an entire Practice Log before the end of your four weeks, just ask us for another Practice Log (or download your own below) so you can keep a good thing going!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
All Backbeat students who are registered in private lessons, an Intro Series class or a Rock Band.
Due to the nature of their programs, Little Beats and Bigger Beats students are not able to participate in The Practice Game.
DO ALL BACKBEAT STUDENTS HAVE TO PARTICIPATE?
Nope. Participation in The Practice Game is entirely optional.
CAN ONLINE-ONLY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?
You bet! Simply download and print a copy of our Practice Log and track your practice minutes like everyone else.
Then, during your online lesson, show your teacher your Practice Log and tell them how many minutes you would like to cash in and for what prizes.
You will then receive an email from us letting you know when your prize is available for curbside pick-up.
IS THERE AN UNLIMITED NUMBER OF PRIZES AVAILABLE?
Due to the nature and value of some of our prizes (i.e. our limited release Backbeat guitar picks), we only have a limited quantity of them available. All prizes will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
DO THE MINUTES I SPEND PLAYING IN MY LESSON/CLASS/ROCK BAND COUNT AS PRACTICE MINUTES?
No. Only practice minutes earned outside of your time at Backbeat can be recorded on your Practice Log.
IF I CASH IN MY MINUTES, CAN I STILL WIN THE $100?
You bet! We'll use all your practice minutes, even the ones you've already cashed in, to determine if you're the winner of the grand prize. It's kind of like you can win twice!
CAN I CASH IN THE SAME MINUTES MORE THAN ONCE?
No. Once you have cashed in specific minutes for prizes, your teacher will mark them off on your Practice Log. Once practice minutes have been cashed in/marked off, they cannot be cashed in for more prizes.
CAN I USE THE PRACTICE LOG IN MY BACKBEAT ACCOUNT TO TRACK MY MINUTES?
You can technically use whatever you'd like to track your practice minutes! But, in order to cash in your practice minutes, we kindly ask that eventually you copy your practice minutes into your hard copy Practice Log to make it easier for your teacher to cash in your minutes.
WHAT IF I LOSE MY PRACTICE LOG?
Just don't lose it! But, in all seriousness, if you keep your Practice Log in your lesson notes binder or a duotang, there's a really low chance you'll lose your Practice Log.
