Learning music doesn't have to be a solo pursuit. If private lessons alone don't get your child excited about music, joining a Rock Band might be just what they need.

Playing music with others is awesome and we believe that kids should be able to experience what the magic is all about.

HOW DOES ROCK BAND WORK EXACTLY?

Playing in a Backbeat Rock Band means that your child will be playing music with other kids who are similar in age and musical ability.

Your child's band will meet once a week to rehearse and they will perform at least three times a year (in November, March and June).

All bands are led by Backbeat teachers who facilitate the rehearsals and challenge the band members to grow as musicians.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A ROCK BAND AUDITION?

A Rock Band Audition is the first step for any new Rock Band members who are not current Backbeat students.

A Rock Band Audition will take no longer than 30 minutes and will consist of a jam where we get to know your child, their musical ability and the type of music they are into.

Once we know this, we will make personalized recommendations as to which Rock Band would be the best fit for them. It's at this stage, that you have to decide if you would like to confirm and pay for your child's Rock Band registration.

WHAT INSTRUMENTS CAN MY CHILD PLAY IN A ROCK BAND?

Traditionally, students play guitar, drums, bass, piano or they sing in a Rock Band. This being said, we've also had students play violin, saxophone and trumpet!

The best way to know whether or not your child can play their preferred instrument in one of our bands is to simply ask us!

SHOULD I CHOOSE JR. ROCK BAND OR ROCK BAND?

It depends on the age of your child. If your child is 8 or 9 years old, they're perfect for Jr. Rock Band. If your child is 10 or 11 years old, they can choose between Jr. Rock Band or Rock Band (Rock Band is a better fit for students who have more experience on their instrument and are ready for an extra challenge). If your child is 11+, Rock Band is the choice for them!
